Last year I decided to study British History through reading Living History books. I also read some books about Ireland as well.

Through doing that I have read and loved so many books that take place in the United Kingdom, and Ireland. I want to share with you just a few of them.

The first one comes to us from Ireland.

The Cottage at Bantry Bay, by Hilda van Stockum, is an enchanting book, about the O’Sulivan family, in County Cork, Ireland. Whether it’s trying to train a naughty dog, or looking for the twins, during a treacherous rain storm, the O’ Sulivans have plenty of adventures to keep you entertained.

I enjoyed this book thoroughly, it made me want to go to Ireland even more. I was also just as delighted to read the second and third book in the series, Fancie on the Run, and Pegeen.

The Shakespeare Stealer by Gary Blackwood, was an excellent book, set in London, England. I had a hard time starting another book right after it, because it was one of those books that are just so sad to have finished, because it was so good.

It is a breathtaking tale of an orphan, named Widge, sent by his harsh master, to steal a play from the all famous William Shakespeare himself!!!

The Hidden Treasures of Glaston, by Eleanore M. Jewett, which takes place, unsurprisingly in Glastonbury England. This book, was a bit longer, but totally worth the read. It was very engaging, and thrilling.

A great story of a young boy, determined to find the Holy Grail. Young Hugh is brought to Glastonbury Abbey to be raised by the monks there. Adventure soon follows.

I hope that you and your children will enjoy these books as much as I did. I still remember all of these very fondly, and will certainly re-read all of these many times, in the future.
