The Boy on the Wooden Box by Leon Leyson

The Boy on the Wooden Box by Leon Leyson is a powerful story of hope and determination and survival against all odds. This book is a memoir written about the author’s experience as a Polish Jew during World War II who was lucky enough to find himself on Schindler’s List.

A Short Summary of The Boy on the Wooden Box

The author, Leon Leyson was only a child when Poland was invaded by the Nazis. He had been living with his parents and his three older brothers and older sister in Krokow when their home was invaded and they were all rounded up and taken to the ghetto.

The Box on the Wooden Box is truly a story of amazing determination. Against all odds, Leon continued to survive horror after horror and some of the most despicable living and working conditions.

The Leyons’ unlikely saviour turned out to be a member of the Nazi party and an enamelware factory owner; Oskar Schindler. Leon was only thirteen years old when his father convinced Oskar Schindler to let his youngest son work at the factory. Leon Leyson became No. 289 on Schindler’s List.

My Thoughts on The Boy on the Wooden Box by Leon Leyson

The Boy on the Wooden Box was a fascinating read. Leon was only a child, like so many others, when he and his family had to go through the horror of the holocaust. This book was a really good read and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning more about the holocaust and more specifically, Oskar Schindler and his famous list.

It must be noted that The Boy on the Wooden Box is a very heavy read and would not be suitable for younger or sensitive readers. This book would be a great addition to any high schoolers reading list, however. It is one of those books that everyone should read and experience as soon as they are old enough. It is very important to remember the lives of those such as the late Leon Leyson. His story is one that should be read and shared and remembered.

In Conclusion

The Boy on the Wooden Box is an amazing story that should be read by anyone who is mature enough to handle reading about some dark and horrible situations. It is a first-hand account of experiences during the holocaust and it is one that should be read and remembered.
